Hawk's By Design

Usually…whenever we come around to a new anime season, I pick out two to four shows that I want to follow. Generally, I at least complete three of them, if not all of them.

How many was I looking forward to in this past season (Spring 2019)? Uh, one.

My Feelings on this Season

Nothing really struck me as “I have to watch that!” this season.

I haven’t watched One Punch Man, so season 2 means nothing to me. The same can be said for Bungou Stray Dogs season 3. I dropped Attack on Titan after season 2, so the second part of season 3 doesn’t appeal to me. I’m not a Fruits Basket fan, so a re-make is a no from me.

Should I get into this season’s isekai anime, also known as Wise Man’s Grandchild? Eh, I’m kind of burnt out on that sort of stuff at the moment, I mean I didn’t even make it far in Shield Hero. I didn’t make it through the Quintessential Quintuplets last season, so why would I try to watch the copy of that show (We Never Learn)?

There are some music shows that looked decent (Carole & Tuesday, for one), but I’m not a huge music fan. Even with the comedy of Zombieland Saga, it was a struggle for me to get through that.

I guess I’m in a bit of a slump, huh? Why not talk about the couple shows I’m actually following?

Yeah, let’s do that.

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba)

I mean, is it that big of a shocker? Take out the sequel seasons and this is pretty much the most popular show this season. Also, it’s by ufotable, so it’s really pretty to look at.

If you aren’t familiar with this show, then you can pretty much assume what it’s about from the title. Yep. It’s about a kid becoming a demon slayer and going about his life slaying demons because they are demons.

Demon Slayer. Goblin Slayer. I like simple names that perfectly sum up the show.

This show has some beautiful action sequences, especially whenever the main uses his water techniques. I’m a sucker for a main character that actually analyzes and reacts to situations, and this guy seems to do just that, which is nice. He doesn’t just rush in and fight, he thinks things through…sometimes a little too much, but still.

In between the action, we get a nice dose of comedy that flows well. I’m halfway through the show, which means I’m caught up with all releases currently, so I don’t really see any reason why I’d drop it at this point.

Rawr, demons.

Ao-chan Can’t Study! (Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai)

This is the only other show that I am currently watching. Even then, I’m kind of half-heartedly watching it. I’m quite a few episodes behind, but I binge a couple every now and again because it’s enjoyable.

This one isn’t as popular as Demon Slayer, and the episodes are short, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you haven’t heard of it. Basically, this high school chick has a father that is huge into the erotic novel scene. She’s terrified of people finding out. The real kicker is that she innocently misinterprets almost every conversation to be about something sexual.

It makes for a pretty funny, light-hearted story that I can just pop on and not have to do much thinking. Is it the greatest in the world? Nah, but it’s entertaining.

Maybe Next Season

There are a couple of shows I have my eye on for next season, so that’s a relief. It’s kind of weird not having a show to follow religiously in a season. At least next season there are a couple of sequel shows that I can actually follow!

Well, that’s it.

Thanks for reading.
